It is just the beginning of how we tend to back away from our responsibility in an action, even today, trying to cover ourselves from blame and passing it on to another. We should realize that God is an all knowing God and we cannot hide anything from Him. He is also a God of forgiveness and though we may suffer the consequences of a sin, we are forgiven if we repent and ask for forgiveness.
