Exodus 29:20
Slaughter it, take some of its blood and put it on the lobes of the right ears of Aaron and his sons, on the thumbs of their right hands, and on the big toes of their right feet. Then splash blood against the sides of the altar.

Blood is put on Aaron ear, thumbs and toes. Ears to listen to God's words, thumbs that I would do what I heard and toes to follow Him.

I know this is an odd verse to highlight, but look at it. This is just plain strange to us in this present age. Without a thorough study on this section of Scripture, all I can say is that God does not do anything without a reason. Everything He does is calculated. Everything has a meaning. Many of the most minute details point straight to Christ.

This type of anointing was performed over one that was chosen as a spokes person for the Lord and was properly presented with putting blood on the lobes of the right ear (Right Hand of the Father)and the right thumbs and big toes. Hands and feet that lead as we imitate our Heavenly Father. The Splashing is also anointing the altar. But now we have the Blood of Jesus and use anointing oil to make these representations.
