Esther 1:12
But when the attendants delivered the king's command, Queen Vashti refused to come. Then the king became furious and burned with anger.

I read this that the Queen was not worried about losing her queenship. She was not a trophy to be paraded in front of men, she was the queen and should be treated with respect. God teaches us that we are all to be treated the same as he treats us.

Amen, Patty, and we also see that king Xerxes was severely under the influence of alcohol, which no doubt caused him to not be able to reason well. God bless.

There has been a debate throughout the centuries whether Queen Vashti was wrong in disobeying the king but in the end God was at work. For behind the scenes there is a plot to wipe out the people of God and the all knowing God has a plan ready to save His people. In order to get save His people He needs a new queen in place. One thing we can always be sure of is that God is always several steps ahead of us and we need to learn to trust Him more!

We don't know why Vashti didn't come but we do know she was a woman of character and conviction. And at the time the king was drunk with wine and wanted her to be present at his banquet, and she refused. I'm guessing she didn't want to be present with a lot of drunken guest.

Amen, Peter, and no doubt knew he would parade her as a prized possession, rather than as his wife. Alcohol can inhibit the mind so as not to be able to reason too. God bless.

The brave Queen did not succumb to the drunken Kings command. She knew the law and must have had an idea as to how the King would react.

Queen Vashti refusing and the king furious and burning with anger.... Refusing to obey to man who was wanting the queen to do something that was not pleasing to God. Furious and burning with anger because the king was refused and rejected and his pride was so important to him. I admire the queen who stood up to the one who did not have their mind on God and that took courage to go against such power. Sometimes we may find ourselves giving in to things because of the company that we are in like ones with wealth, power, and popularity. But to make that stand and refuse to go along with this type does take courage and shows that God is more important and more worthwhile to please than to go along and please such callous and self righteous persons in this category. God, I love you and want to make my decisions based on You wanting to please and obey You, not man.

Esther 1:12 - Now we know where the saying came from "Just say No". Vashti is a woman to be admired. i hope she was saved. i also hope the other woman looked up to her for taking a stand against a bunch of drunks. Sometimes getting fired can be the best thing that ever happened to us. It takes faith to "just say no". Not 100% sure of Vashi's reasons for "just saying no" but we know if she didn't then there would never have been a Queen Esther. i wonder if Esther and Vashi were able to talk to each other. If so, i am sure they would have become friends. Father, help me to "just say no" to sin. Help me always "just do no" and give You consequences. i am thankful to know You always have my back and You always work things out for my good because i love You and i am called according to you purpose.

Funny, Nancy, u, Lloyd and I all chose the same Scripture and basically contributed it to drinking. U and I both feel the same about Vashti. Go Vashti. Go Vashti. O that's right she did hafta go didn't she?

I agree with Lloyd your comments were the best. You know if (and that’s a BIG IF) I were young, unsaved and more beautiful than all the other women around me and had to hide behind a veil and baggie clothes I think I would want people to see me. If you got it - flaunt it. She must have had continual beauty treatments and no one except the king saw her beautiful face or lovely skin. Maybe not even her nails. Who knows maybe they were not going to see her naked but just like the girls dress today which back then they would call naked. Yes, Vashti is my hero. I look up to her and I hope the other women of that time did also and the women today too. After all someone has to look up or at her.

I don't believe Vashti was just feeling that she didn't wanna break up her own party to adhere to the king's beckon call. I believe and most scholars agree that the King wanted her to "show off" her "goods", so to speak. This kingdom is Persia, what is nowadays Turkey, Iraq, Iran, Pakistan, Jordan, Lebanon, Israel; and parts of modern day Egypt, Sudan, Libya, and Arabia. For Vashti to have just uncovered her FACE, would've been disgraceful, and with him and all his buddies being drunk, I'm sure they were interested in seeing more than her beautiful face. She gave up all the perks of being a Queen, was banished and never heard from again, but she left with her dignity intact. Good for u Vashti! And all these men believed that if the King let Vashti get away with this, their wives would, God forbid not be subservient chattle any more. Thank You, Jesus, for being the ULTIMATE woman's liberator...to the woman at the well, the woman caught in adultery, Mary Magdelain and the 2 that You appeared to after Your resurrection. Side note: I was reading one of the commentaries and this is what was said to be known about history's profile of this spoiled brat King: "He was such an unreasonable and foolish man, on one occasion, Ahasuerus (aka Xerxes) executed the builders of a bridge because an ocean storm destroyed it; then he commanded that the water and waves be whipped and chained to punish the sea." Can u imagine, a grown man trying to punish the ocean? Now THAT'S what I call one spoiled rotten brat. If I was Vashti, I'd probably be relieved to be banished from him. I don't care how many perks I received.

This shows what can happen when intoxicating substances overtake the human mind and cause division and animosity between people, in this case between king and queen (husband and wife). Not good, and God has said in Scripture not to become intoxicated. (Eph. 5:18) We see it excessively today and police are always doing roadside checks, testing drivers for intoxication because it has drastic results, very often. I have known personally, people who have died due to becoming intoxicated and others who were left maimed for the same reason. Lord, bring conviction upon those whom we know who frequently over indulge so that they may stay away from such activity and not harm themselves or others, whether physically or emotionally. Amen

I even liked your perspective better than mine. Just what popped into my head at the time but both of us caught that it was his intoxication that caused the problem. God bless.
