What do people gain from all their labors
at which they toil under the sun?

Ecclesiastes 1:3 What do people gain from all their labors at which they toil under the sun? I don't know for sure. Maybe some one can help me on this one. Is that not what God said it would be like?. Aren't we to toil all the day of our life, because of Adam and Eves fall? What is a referents I can go to?

For me, this is saying that we know we have to work in order to be able to have the things we need in life. You have to work and work hard at trying to pay your bills and have a home and food on your table, BUT we have to look at it as it is GOD who really is helping us and supplying us with these things. Solomon is living in sin right now and he is always looking at the negative parts of his life. He is saying that life and everything about life itself is meaningless and it doesn't matter. It is meaningless and it really doesn't matter if we do not have God at the center of our lives. HE has to be first, HE has to be trusted and leaned on in order for us to have a good and happy life in this world. Without GOD, it all really is pointless because what the devil is putting in our minds it is worthless. But we know he is a liar! God does help those who wants to help themselves, BUT there is a time where we have to realize that IT IS HIM who is in control over it all and we would not have any of it if it wasn't for Him. We have because we work, and we have our trust in Him.

Yes, Gary ditto what Mary said, but I'll add my 2 cents worth. You see people who are workaholics. They work and work and never have time for God, church or their family. Then, when the kids rebel and the spouse leaves, they say, "what happened? " I've never heard of a death bed confession that they wished they'd spent more time working.

Ecclesiastes 1:3 – This is exactly how I felt before I was saved. I would work 6 days so that I would have money to buy work clothes and have transportation so that I could go to work. The 7th day I would be shopping for food and preparing myself for the next weeks work. If I didn’t work I wouldn’t have so many expenses. And if I didn’t buy things I would have to be cleaning and taking care of things. So what if I had a few hours to laugh and enjoy myself was it worth all the work. Life to me was meaningless a chasing after the wind. When I first read Ecclesiastes I was shocked to find out that the bible spoke of exactly what I used to feel. I love to give people Gospels of John, but I think the book of Ecclesiastes would be more effective. When I first got save I had already “thought” I was going to heaven, so finding out I could wasn’t “at first” a big deal to me. What was a big deal to me was that my life had meaning and purpose. No longer was I living to get a few hours of pleasure each week. No longer was I living for myself. Now I am living for God. I was not a mistake. The world wouldn’t be better off without me. There was a creator that created me for His plan and purpose and best of all He created me for His pleasure. So there satan, get out of my face and stay out!

AMEN! For a while there all I thought I was here for was to take care of my kids and husband. Do all the cleaning, do all the cooking, do all the laundry, take care of THEIR stupid pets, and it was a never ending battle. The same junk, just a different day of the week, month, or year. I have been stuck at home for 14 years now taking care of everyone and everything I felt like I lost myself. Why am I here? Just to be someone else's maid, cook, and laundry mat??? I started hating my life and everything about myself. Then God showed me what HE wanted for me. I thank Him everyday that I listened to Him because now I have meaning, a purpose outside of my kids, husband, housework, paying bills, and going grocery shopping! I have a great ministry for Jesus!!! Slowly, but surely I will go outside of my home and online ministry! I want to order more of the Gospels, I have been telling all who will listen about this site, I am taking all the courses they offer, I am going to do my best to start planning for the Holiday Seasons and see if I can do to the surrounding areas and work the food pantries and start handing them out with information about The Pocket Testament League, and my ministry cards I have had made about my ministry page I have to try to get more people ready for Jesus! AMEN! Thank you Lord Jesus for your great blessings that you have gave to me and to use ME, a lonely stay at home Mommy and Housewife who had nothing to look forward to but does NOW! I praise your wonderful and precious name!

Yes Mary, it is a privilege to serve the Lord. But i have to be careful, as we all should, that we don't make our ministry our God. And that we don't make our ministry our purpose for life, as we are here to bring God pleasure not to serve Him.
