What a powerful example of being your own person. It does not matter what your parent or grandparents did follow God with your own heart and mind. Asa followed God and God blessed them.

Once again Yahweh shows up "big time" as am "if" and "then" God. Asa did the "if" part of removing the foreign altars and the high places, smashing the sacred stones and cutting down the Asherah poles. He commanded Judah to seek the Lord, the God of their ancestors, and to obey his laws and commands. He removed the high places and incense altars in every town in Judah, and the kingdom was at peace under him and built up the fortified cities of Judah. Then when the Cushites came around asking for trouble, Asa called out to God and He did His "then" part and struck'em all down and sent 'em packing. Thank You Papa God for Your faithfulness throughout ALL generations, I'll sing of Your mercies forever.

Asa obeyed the Lord his God and destroyed the local alters to foreign gods. He told everyone in Judah to worship the Lord and keep His Law's just as their ancestors had done. The Lord blessed Judah with peace while Asa was king. With the people's help, Asa fortified many of the towns and had a large army of 580,000 brave solders. Asa said, "This land still belong to us, because we have obeyed the Lord our God. He has given us peace from all our enemies.Once Zerah of Ethiopia led an army of a million soldiers and 300 chariots into Judah. Then Asa prayed, "Lord God, only you can help a powerless army defeat a stronger one. So we depend on you to help us. We will fight against this powerful army to honor your name, and we know that you won't be defeated. You are the Lord our God." Of course the Lord came through and helped Asa and his army to totally defeat the Ethiopians. They carried away camels and all that belonged to the the Ethiopians and its neighboring town, Gerar,. When the people of Gerar heard what happened to the Ethiopians, they became afraid of the Lord. The Lord works on behalf of all who place their complete faith and trust in Him. May our love for the Lord continue to grow day by day.
