"As for this temple you are building, if you follow my decrees, observe my laws and keep all my commands and obey them, I will fulfill through you the promise I gave to David your father.

I think God wanted to encourage Solomon to keep moving forward but also to remind him he was to follow God's commands and to obey them. God also wanted to keep Solomon from becoming prideful in himself because of the temple he was building. God wants us to do his will but not for ourselves or to bring fame for ourselves but to bring glory to God.

The word the Lord had spoken to king David would be honored, as long as Solomon followed through in keeping the Lord's laws and commands. God never goes back on His word, so long as we follow His commands. Thank You, Lord, for Your steadfastness, and help me/us to always keep Your commandments that honor You. Amen

When I see King Solomon building the temple for the Lord, and the Lord told him if you follow my decrees and observe my laws and keep all my commands and obey them, I will live among the Israelites and not abandon my people, it reminds me of my walk with God and the temple I'm building for Him in me. His promise always stands true. Let's make ourselves temples worthy for the Lord to reside within.

I Kings 6:12 – Here we see the famous “if you” then “I will”. Solomon is building the temple but God is building Solomon. We can be faithful in serving the Lord and faithful in Telling Others Daily About our Savior but the most important thing is allowing God to build us. I know as I serve the Lord and Tell Others about Him I am learning about Christ and growing closer to Him, but serving alone doesn’t cut it. We must be in the Word and in Prayer Daily feeding our Spirit. Jesus has to be our Lord, Savior and Friend.

1 Kings 5:6 – Nice to see both Jews and Gentiles working together in harmony which opens doors for great opportunities to witness. I think a great way to witness to an unbeliever is to ask them for something as Jesus asked the Samaritan women for a drink. By Solomon asking the Gentiles for help and complimenting them or their skills is a great way to build bridges to witness. Be wise and Tell Others Daily About Your Savior.

1 Kings 4:25 - Back then people came from all over the world to hear about plants, animals, proverbs and songs. Today we have "Google". Back then they lived in safety because God sent fighting men like David to go to war so that the next generation could live in peace. Today i live in peace with God because God sent fighting men to protect the Word of God and reproduce it into my language. At the same time, i live in war as i have to fight for the next generation to be able hear about God in a world where satan is blinding people's eyes, ears and hearts to the truth. Of course the battle belongs to the Lord, but we cannot sit home and watch people bathing on TV rooftops which cause us to accept sin in our lives as if it were our God given right. Turn of the TV and Tell Others Daily About Your Savior.

Since the temple was completed (fulfilling the promise made to David), Solomon must have been pretty faithful to God during these years and obeyed the decrees, laws and commands of God. It was only later in life that he began to stray (I assume).

Solomon has always been an example to me, in that while he built the temple and as you have said, Allan, followed the Lord very closely and yet by the end of his life went badly astray. It just shows me that I have to always be on guard against the temptations of the enemy to attempt to lead me astray. Help me, Lord, to keep following You for the rest of my life.
