1 John 1:8 If we claim to be without sin, we deceive ourselves and the truth is not in us. 9 If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness. 10 If we claim we have not sinned, we make Him out to be a liar and His Word is not in us.
I love the way John sandwiches this here. He6 tells us that if we confess our sin, God is faithful to not just forgive our sin, but to cleanse us from the mess we made while doing it.
But we MUST admit that we're a sinner!
Sin is our default mode and as John says here we must realize that fact. And if we don't, we're calling God a liar.
Whose the first one to call God a liar? The serpent! Who is the biggest liar of all. So we can agree with God or we can agree with the enemy. As for me, I'm with God 💯.
Papa God thank You for showing me who I am: a dirty rotten sinner that can't do ANYTHING without Your divine help. Thank You that even in that state, You still love me. I can't comprehend it, but I know that You're not a man and You don't lie. So give me the strength to follow You all the days of my life. And I give You all the glory for it, iJna.

This letter is obviously written by John to rather grounded believers, as we know that we not only need to confess our sins to God but also there is repentance required, which is not mentioned here but is in other letters from Paul. It appears that these people would already know that. Acts 3:19 "Therefore repent and convert so that your sins may be blotted out, when the times of refreshing shall come from the presence of the Lord." It appears that the people had already been refreshed and believed in Christ but were being encouraged by John to confess when they failed.

Father, forgive me of my sins. This is my prayer, every day. I know as long as I am in this world, I will sin. I just need to remember to ask for God's forgiveness. No excuses, just heartfelt repentance. "And I am certain that God, who began the good work within you, will continue his work until it is finally finished on the day when Christ Jesus returns."

God help us to confirm our sins so that we can be righteous and purified so that when we die our soul can be with Him.

This statement is of primary importance in our walk. We hopefully do our best not to sin but we all slip up and at that time it is important to confess our sins to God and actually to a trusted brother or sister who will pray for us and keep us accountable, so that we do not continue in that sin (repentance) .(James 5:16) If we are struggling with something it is good to have an accountability partner to help us walk as we should. This brother or sister must be a confidential partner that will never reveal anything we tell them. They must be able to be trusted with what we confess to them. Help us, Lord to walk the walk we talk.

All I can say is that there are many people, even Christians that struggle in their prayer life because they do not believe the truth of this scripture. They believe the lie that because God knows everything from the begining to the end and because Jesus's sacrifice guarentees forgiveness of the past, present and future sins that they do not have to confess their sins in prayer to God. The truth is that the work of the cross guarentees forgiveness of past, presant, and future sins IF we confess them in prayer. Suicide is a fatal decission. There is no oppertunity to confess the already commited sin of killing yourself. After death is judgment. Those that commit suicide are going to hell unless they are children who don't know better.
