Even though God did move in their favor, many people try to go ahead of God and do their own planning and then say "God will help me" but we don't truly seek God first. We want to do our own thing and keep God in our plans instead of doing His will and keeping our minds and hearts focused on His Plan.

True in one sense, Taisha but remember, Jonathan did in one way seek a sign from the Lord that it was ok to proceed when he said "if they invite us to come up, then we will know the Lord is with us". And Jonathan did know that his father did not always act as the Lord would have him to do. I have always admired Jonathan for standing for what was right, as we will see when David comes into the picture. He favored David when his father desired to kill him. God bless.

Nomatter how many times samuel tried to make them see choosing a king was a bad idea, they just didn't care. I feel like God was kinda crying out to them saying in so many words "but I am the one who loves you and cares for you"
