God has always had a perfect plan for us all. Even the unbelievers can be grafted back in after making room (being broken off) for those who believe and are of the faith. We must therefore remain humble in our journey.

we would have become like Sodom,
we would have been like Gomorrah."

Praise God for his goodness grace and mercy. For our God knew if we remained under the law we would perish just as Sodom and Gomorrah. Our works just as theirs would never accomplish what the blood of our Lord and savior Jesus Christ accomplished.

In other words, it is not the children by physical descent who are God's children, but it is the children of the promise who are regarded as Abraham's offspring.

For we are all physically connected to our Lord and Savior, but is the offspring of faith, the ones who love, trust and believe God's word. "Faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen for it was by faith that Abraham obtained a good report." Another scripture to reflect upon: "For without faith it is impossible to please God."
