Romans 10:14
How, then, can they call on the one they have not believed in? And how can they believe in the one of whom they have not heard? And how can they hear without someone preaching to them?

I remember Paul’s commendation to the Church at Thessalonica. He knew their good example had impressed all those around them “in every place”. Paul writes, “you became examples to all in Macedonia and Achaia who believe. For from you the word of the Lord has sounded forth, not only in Macedonia and Achaia, but also in every place. Your faith toward God has gone out, so that we do not need to say anything.” [1 Thess. 1:7-8] So demonstrating a Godly Christ-like example sends a strong message. The greatest argument for Christ and the greatest argument against Christ is the life of a Christian. There’s a quote that’s often attributed to St. Francis of Assisi that says, “Preach the gospel at all times—if necessary use words.” Now whether St. Francis really said that is a matter of debate. But what should really concern us is how many people abuse that quote to justify never using words to share the Gospel.
Some people think, “When I witness, I’ll just witness by my life. Then when someone sees me being good, they’ll ask me about what I believe.” This is a convenient way of them not having to be active in sharing their faith. They think that they can just sit back with their bait in the boat and watch the fish jump in!
You are either a helper or a hurter when it comes to reaching the world for Christ. Why? Because, like “Big Brother,” this hyper-critical Christ-hating world is watching your “Sunday-go-to-church” behavior and wondering how it compares to your behavior the rest of the week. Most of us miss witnessing opportunities every day. We should ask God to open our eyes to the witnessing opportunities all around me.
What do others see? Do they see you giving your time and resources to help them when they’re hurting? Do they witness how you treat your family? Or how you entertain your friends? Or do you even know their names? Please, I want you to hear me clearly: Preach with your actions. Let there be congruency between what you proclaim in your life and how you live. But at the same time, don’t rely on your good works to inspire people to follow Christ because "faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the word of God" [Romans 10:17]!
So if I may, let me amend that quote: “Preach the Gospel at all times—through your actions and your words.” When you allow the Holy Spirit to work in and through you and share the Word of God with others, people will both see and hear the Gospel of Jesus Christ!
Our good works alone won’t bring people to Jesus. We need to preach the Gospel in both our lifestyle example and with loving words. “Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works and glorify your Father in heaven.” [Matt. 5:16] “You are the salt of the earth; …” [Matt. 5:13] “You are the light of the world….” [Matt. 5:14] “Preach the word! Be ready in season and out of season. Convince, rebuke, exhort, with all longsuffering and teaching.” [2 Timothy 4:2]

That's right, Don, if you help people without telling them about Jesus, you've relieved their suffering only to let them still perish

yes how they will hear the good news if we do not tell them, jesus wants us to tell everyone, and he wants all who belong to him to share the good news of what he has to give.
