Do not be afraid of those who kill the body but cannot kill the soul. Rather, be afraid of the One who can destroy both soul and body in hell.

Our fear should not be of the world and people on it but our fear should be of God and the fact He can destroy our soul. This world and the people in it can take away our life in a second but not following Christ we will lose our eternal life.

This makes me think of Christians who are being persecuted today .what a terrible thing it must be to know that you're going to be beheaded. But this verse reminds us that they can only kill our bodies they cannot take our souls. So to be absent from the body is to be present with the Lord. Amen .

Yes Sue, it must be very hard on the families also, especially if the family members are not saved.

I will strand strong when judged by those that do not understand you Lord. I will tell them of your love and the salvation you are so freely giving them.

The christian doesn't need to fear death because it's just the doorway to eternity with the Father. Those who are in a lost state should fear because they face the penalty of dying in their sins, which is hell. If we have an accurate view of God, we will not allow ourselves to be troubled by the many temporal things of this world.
