I think what he is trying to say is what is good is great but if you over use it or you don't use it enough your expectation of the out come changes.

Mark 9:49-50"For everyone will be seasoned with fire, and every sacrifice will be seasoned with salt. Salt is good, but if the salt loses its flavor, how will you season it? Have salt in yourselves, and have peace with one another." Salt is a good preservative, people used to use it to preserve meat before we had refrigeration. It's also used to cure olives. Ripe olives are bitter, but processing in salt transforms them. There's a lot of bitter people in this world, bitter towards bosses, teachers, the government, parents, children, and churches. They all need to be salted with The Fathers Love to be transformed from bitter to loving. Our bodies are made of salt, check out your sweat and tears. Many years ago, in Holland, when a prisoner was condemned to death, all they did was put him in his cell and give him a diet completely devoid of salt. In a short time the guy would get worms that would eat him up as he died a slow, lingering death. Salt is also good for flavoring, it gives savor and flavor to our daily food. Job 6:6 asks, "Can that which is unsavory be eaten without salt? or is there any taste in the white of an egg?" Whether it's a banquet of kings or poor widow's cold potato, food would be flavorless without it. Salt also makes us thirsty. A great way to sell lots of drinks is to serve salty food. We see soda and juice companies compete for customers by advertising their beverages as "the perfect thirst-quenchers". But only pure water can truly quench any thirst. Salt is also a healer. We use Epsom salts to soak away our aches and pains. We use saline solution to clean our eyes and wounds. During World War II, a ship named the Athena was attacked by the Germans. All the passengers of the Athena were badly wounded, but no one died even tho they had no medical supplies. They all dipped their bodies into the salty sea water and were healed. Salt melts ice, Christ’s love melts even the coldest of hearts. The world is cold and indifferent, and it's easy to let that influence us to be the same and develop a “don’t care” attitude. We, as Christians, are the salt of the earth. We're here to preserve the earth from corruption and flavor and heal it with the gospel. Jesus great commandment was to "go into the world and make disciples", not sit in our pew, not put on extravagant programs to WOW them, waiting for the unsalty world to clean themselves up to our standards and then come in. Let’s bring Christ's healing to others, be the first to reach out and mingle with them like the salt that's mixed with the food. Salt is sprinkled on food, not vice versa. We're the salt, not the food waiting to be salted within the walls of our "Bless Me Club" aka the church building. Papa God, show us how to be salty Christians, filled with the love of Jesus, so those who know us may thirst for Him and be open to the gospel. Let our saltiness preserve the world from corruption and “flavor” it with love, melt hearts, cure bitterness, and heal the wounded. May we forget our stupid petty doctrinal differences and unite with Christ and one another, as we salt the world with His love.
