Luke 3:5
Every valley shall be filled in,
every mountain and hill made low.
The crooked roads shall become straight,
the rough ways smooth.
every mountain and hill made low.
The crooked roads shall become straight,
the rough ways smooth.
Peter B. from Buchanan, MI said:
This reminds me of 4 obstacles of sin as we walk the path the Lord has us to follow, Every valley will be filled, after repentance of our sin, every mountain and hill made low, after repentance of sin, the crooked roads shall become straight, after repentance of sin, and finally there are times there will be rough times in our life because of our sin, which will be made smooth because Jesus paid the price for all of our sins by His shed Blood. Proverbs 3: 6 In all your ways, acknowledge Him, and He will make your path straight. Pursue God to Overcome Obstacles Amen and Amen.

Luke 3: 4-6 as it is written in the book of the words of Isaiah the prophet, saying: “The voice of one crying in the wilderness: ‘Prepare the way of the Lord; Make His paths straight. Every valley shall be filled And every mountain and hill brought low; The crooked places shall be made straight And the rough ways smooth And all flesh shall see the salvation of God.’”
John's message then is the same as it is today: Jesus will fill valleys, level mountains, set crooked roads straight and smooth out rough roads, if we allow HIM to do it. These things are impossible with man, but ALL things are possible with God.
The Jews of that day thought their problem was the Roman government who were politically oppressing them. They believed that they needed a political solution to their spiritual bankruptcy, and that the Messiah was going to do that. This is very similar to what's happening in America today. 1 Peter 4:17 says judgement begins in the house of God.
The church needs to stop trying to be like the world hoping to draw unbelievers in. We need to be going out and serving them AND preaching the gospel, changing their hearts and minds toward Jesus.
John then calls them a Brood of vipers. It doesn't sound like he attended Dale Carniege's, "How To Win Friends And Influence People", course, does it? I don't believe I've ever heard a preacher begin a sermon by addressing the congregation as a bunch of snakes, or asking them, "why are you here? "
John obviously wasn't interested in preaching a soft message or tickling ears. He was just outright weird, walking around having never had a haircut, with grasshoppers and honey stuck in his beard. Jesus frontrunner wasn't some slick snake oil salesman in a thousand dollar suit and a 200 dollar haircut. That goes to show us that God can use just about anyone, even if they are weird.
Then he told them not to brag about having Abraham as their father. That's equivalent to saying I know I'm going to heaven because I was raised _______(Catholic, Baptist, Pentecostal, fill in the blank), or my _______ (Mom, Dad, Grandmother, Grandfather, full in the blank), was a________ (Pastor, Deacon, Elder, full in the blank). God doesn't have any grandchildren. Each person has to receive the free gift of salvation, PERSONALLY, by admitting their a sinner and can't save themselves, accepting His finished work on the cross and inviting Him in to be Lord, Saviour and forever friend and repenting.
Papa God, thank You for sending Jesus to die on the cross and pay the penalty for my sins. I know I blow it and fall short, but I also know that if I confess my sins, You're faithful and just to forgive and cleanse my from all unrighteousness.

Every day we have highs and lows...mountains to climb and roads that are not always leading us in the direction that our Lord wants us to travel. Life comes with many paths, opportunities to take a different route....a shortcut for example, that we think will get us from point A to point B in a quicker way...but that may not be the path that we are to follow and it may lead us into more difficulties than the road that he has placed before our eyes....once we allow Jesus to make his home within our bodies and our minds, those windy roads, those hills and valleys become less of an obstacle to overtake.....we can see the destination much clearer once we see things through his eyes and let him lead......"Every valley shall be filled in, every mountain and hill made low. The crooked roads shall become straight, the rough ways smooth."...... makes sense....and may the Lord lead you onto the path of life.
