John 4:7
When a Samaritan woman came to draw water, Jesus said to her, "Will you give me a drink?"

John 4: 6-7 Now Jacob’s well was there. Jesus therefore, being wearied from His journey, sat thus by the well. It was about the sixth hour. A woman of Samaria came to draw water. Jesus said to her, “Give Me a drink.” In the previous chapter, we saw Nicodemus, a man very well known for being religious, a member of the high counsel, was coming out at night so no one would see him. Here we see the same, yet opposite, a half breed, undesirable Samaritan, a woman who was such an outcast, that she had to come to get water during the hottest part of the day, figuring no one would see her. Nicodemus was seeking Jesus out, this woman was just going about her miserable, day to day life not looking for anything, much less an encounter with the creator of the universe. The Samaritans, in that day were despised by the Jews. They were considered half breeds, and this woman had been married 5 times, and was so dissolutioned with marriage that she was now just shacking up with a man. Sounds like she was just like a lot of us, looking for love in all the wrong places. I belive it's noteworthy to notice that it says the 6th hour. This is directly corelational to her spiritual condition, weary and parched. 6 as stated in Revelation 13, is the number of man, created on the 6th day, and refers to our incompleteness without God. Jesus opens the dialog by asking the Woman for a drink. He didn't judge her in any way, He was showing divine grace. It's by grace we're saved thru faith so no one can boast. How could this poor, despised blinded sinner ever give ANYTHING to God? She couldn't, she had to ask Him, which is what she did in vs 15. He told her that He had the kind of water where she'd never thirst again. She, thinking in the natural, thought that she would be removed from her physical suffering. Sometimes God does remove our physical suffering, up front, but He's more concerned with our soul. Better to be saved and know your name is written in heaven than to be heald and have your soul lost for all eternity. Jesus bids us to come to Him, but ultimately we must ask HIM for the refreshing water that only HE can provide. Jesus has a way of opening us up to our desperate condition and showing us just how unworthy we are, and how His grace, alone, is sufficient to redeem us from our hopeless, lost condition. Jesus, tenderly and patiently, led this woman, step by step, touching her heart, searching her conscience and awakening her soul to a realization of her deep need for a Saviour. Papa God, please, as I see this woman, never let me forget where I came from. But also show me how to ask "Jesus type" questions where You can use me to search people's souls and show people Your amazing grace, that You wish that NONE should perish but ALL should come to eternal life, in Jesus name, Amen

Wow... this verse really hit me like a jolt, because Jesus Himself is asking, albeit proposing... with the words "Will you give me a drink?" Will we give Him our troubles? Will we give Him our desperation, sorrow, sickness, illness, discontent... everything that is bogging us down....in chains and shackles...wow! And in exchange, He will give us the Living Water, the Water of Life... in an endless spring of water from eternal life. Thank you Abba!
