Job 17:3
"Give me, O God, the pledge you demand.
Who else will put up security for me?

Here we see Jobs plea asking for security when all hope is gone. Job wanted a spokesman a heavenly defense attorney who could speak on God's level. As Christians we have our attorney who brings our case before God, Jesus Christ is our mediator our attorney between God and man.

Jobs spirit is broken but he still turns to God. It was difficult for Job when everybody around him said he had fallen. But Scripture says Romans 8 : 31 What, then, shall we say in response to these things? God is for us who can be against us? We have security in the hands of God.

Once again, Job cries out to God, the one he knows will judge and secure him righteously. He knows his supposed friends have condemned him but he also knows God will defend him. Help me, Lord to stand firm in You as Job has done, knowing that You are a righteous judge. Amen

I'm not sure if the book of Job was written before or after the account of Abraham, but this kinda implies that maybe it was after, and job knew about Gen 15, when Abraham and God were going to "cut covenant" by walking thru the halves of the sacrifice together. As Abraham was waiting for God to show up, the birds kept trying to land on the sacrifice. Abraham kept swatting away the birds. God put Abraham into a deep sleep. Abraham woke up to the smell of a barbeque as the fire (of Yahweh) passed thru, without Abraham. God covered both sides of the covenant. God knows we can't keep His covenant. When we give Him our heart, He doesn't give it back cuz we sinned and got our robes of righteousness all soiled. What kind of security would we have in a loving Heavenly Father, if He held THAT over our heads all the time? And He certainly doesn't give it back for US to clean it back up enuf to be acceptable to Him. We couldn't do that to GET saved, why would we think we could do it to STAY saved. All God asks us to do is keep the birds of prey away from our sacrifice (of praise to Him). This whole gig with God covering both sides is an old Testament picture of the New Covenant where God made both the atonement and the reconciliation; we don't have to do it ourselves. Perhaps cuz Job had heard of this, he grasped the whole idea for himself here and realizes when he's asking this question that only God Himself can do for him what he can't do for himself. Papa God please give me strength to keep the yukky birds of prey away from my sacrifice of praise that it'll be not tainted with the yukky pukky lies of the devil, but Holy and acceptable to You my King.
