Job 16:4
I also could speak like you,
if you were in my place;
I could make fine speeches against you
and shake my head at you.

Job replies to his friends that they are of no help with what they say and that he wouldn't speak that way to them if they where in their shoes.

That's correct Linda and Donna, we know Job was a man of true character. That is why God was bragging about him in the first place.

That's right, there jokers names weren't mentioned when the subject of righteous men came up. That's where this suffering thing has to be investigated more thoroughly. Do we as Americans really understand what it means?

I don't know which was worse for poor Job, losing all his kids in one day, having his wife say "curse God and die", or to sit and listen to these guys reel on him. I'm suspicious of anyone's theology when there's no mercy. Personal suffering is definitely no picnic but one thing it does is give us Compassion to folks who are suffering. Father, don't EVER let me forget where I came from, not to wallow in it, but to always remember I was once there and could be again at any time with no warning. The Compassion I show is my treasure stored for me in heaven. I pray for people who have no Compassion, give it to them in Your most gracious way. Or I could say it the way David did in Psa 58 get em, God, smash their teeth to bits and leave them toothless tigers...or not.

So true Donna, theology without mercy is nothing but a creaking of a rusty gate. (smile)
