Jacob lived a challenging life in his 147 years. Grief had taken its toll on him even though he had been reunited with Joseph.

One hundred and thirty years is unheard of today ad as we learn later he jived to one hundred and forty-seven. They obviously lived better and healthier than we do today, even with all of our medical advancements.

I like Jacob's analogy of life being a pilgrimage. He understood that this world was not his final home. He like his grandfather "was looking forward to the city with foundations, whose architect and builder is God." Help me oh Lord to have the same attitude. Help me to remember that all the treasures on earth rust and eventually will be destroyed if a thief doesn't steal them first. Help me to use my time wisely to help others hear the good news of the Gospel too for in the end that is all that will matter!.

Jacob sums up his amount of years as few in comparision with Abraham and Isaac. This is all happening in the 130th year of Jocob's life and he will die at the age of 147. Apparently Jacob could tell that he wasn't going to live to be over 150 like his perdecssors. By comparison Isacc lived to be 180 years old; Abrahm lived to 175. Jacob also classifes his life as being "evil". We remember: 1) His struggle to attain the brithright 2) His brother's threat to kill him 3) His long 20 year ordedral with Laban, 4) The great disapointment with what happened at Shechem 5) Hearing that Joseph, his beloved son, had tragically died 6) The loss of his beloved Rachel at Childbirth.
