Acts 1:8
But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you; and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth."

Peter B.
Peter B. from Buchanan, MI said:
The first witnessing Church, and Jesus is its Head, The Great Commission get out and share our Faith. The word of God is a mighty weapon.

Amen, Peter. And Holy Spirit is our empowerment, giving us authority to do as Jesus did. Mar 16:17-18  And miraculous signs will follow to those believing these things: in My name they will cast out demons; they will speak new tongues;  (18)  they will take up serpents; and if they drink any deadly thing, it will not hurt them. They will lay hands on the sick, and they will be well. Be encouraged and strengthened by Holy Spirit, my brother in Christ, believing for signs and wonders.

Acts 1:8 ~ But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you; and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth." Acts 1:8 ~ The power of the steam in a train is not to blow the whistle but rather to power the engine to move the train. We do not receive the power of the Holy Spirit to get holy laugher, holy goose bumps or emotional highs. We receive the power to proclaim the Truth to the unsaved world around us. Jesus said, "By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another." (John 13:35) How can we say we love people when The Holy Spirit has given us power to be Jesus's witnesses and we do not use it? Maybe we don't have enough faith to use it. We all possess the power of to change people's lives for all eternity but just telling them the Good News of Jesus Christ. We don't have to be well education, well versed, eloquent in speech, or dressed in fancy clothes, all we have to do it tell people about Jesus. The Holy Spirit will do all the work. We just need to be faithful. We are not to take the talents that God has given us and bury them in the ground. We are to multiply them but sharing them with others. Father in Heaven, use me to lead many people to the saving knowledge of Your Truth.

Acts 1:8

Jesus didn't leave any question whether or not His resurrection truly happened. He gave many convincing proofs. Jesus after His resurrection was seen and heard for forty days with His disciples and hundreds of other people. Then He ascended into heaven in front of a multitude, taking His rightful place at the right hand of God the Father. Jesus is there today making intercession for us. His position at the right hand of God the Father is representative of His power and authority as the Second Person of the Trinity. None of the over 500 people who saw Him questioned the fact that He had risen from the dead. We don't have any of the words about the kingdom of God that He spoke to them during that time, but we can be sure it was similar to what He had already taught them before His death. Death would profoundly change the way we see things, but that is not true for the Son of God. He never changes [Hebrews 13:8, “Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today, and forever.”]. When someone we love passes, we treasure the last words they spoke to us. Acts 1:7-8 were Jesus' famous last words before His ascension. The last question the disciples asked was if it was the time for the restoration of the kingdom to Israel. Jesus did not say that would never happen. He told them that it was not for them to know the times or dates the Father has set. By this statement we can learn much. All our guessing and predicting is a waste of time and contrary to Jesus' instruction. The time is set already. The Sovereign God of all has determined the perfect time. While we wait for Jesus return, Acts 1:8 is our call to arms. We must be empowered by the Holy Spirit. Then we are to be witnesses of Christ from our homes to the ends of the earth. Those to whom Jesus was speaking were to tell of the historical facts of what He said and they did, so that we would have a record. Today we can still share those facts with those who have never heard. A witness can tell of Jesus legal right before God to free us from the slavery of sin, because He paid our debt. All believers are to demonstrate the transforming power of the Holy Spirit in our lives. I want to be a more powerful, effective witness for Jesus, how about you? We read that a cloud appeared when Jesus ascended into heaven. This wasn't an ordinary cloud as we think of them. It was a display of His glory, which was reminiscent of the "cloud of glory" that accompanied Him on the Mount of Transfiguration. After His ascension we are left with the most wonderful of promises: "Jesus will return in the same manner as He left." Jesus is coming again in His glory and His power when He returns to the Mount of Olives [Zechariah 14:4-“On that day his feet will stand on the Mount of Olives, east of Jerusalem, and the Mount of Olives will be split in two from east to west, forming a great valley, with half of the mountain moving north and half moving south.”]! Jesus ascension into heaven marked the end of His earthly ministry. Jesus promised to send the Helper who is the Holy Spirit. The arrival of the Holy Spirit is known as the Day of Pentecost [Acts 2]. Jesus ascension also marked the beginning of His heavenly ministry, where He is today making intercession for us before God the Father. In addition His ascension also meant that the task of spreading the Gospel was now placed in the hands of His disciples and the growing church, as we are led by the Holy Spirit. As followers of Christ it is our responsibility to be the salt and light to a dark world. To represent and spread the Gospel of Christ our Lord to a world in the grip of darkness. The Holy Spirit works in the heart of those who are lost and our job is to follow the Holy Sprit's guidance to those who need to hear the Gospel of Christ. When Christ came the first time, He came in humility. But when He comes again, He will come in great honor and glory. When He came the first time, He came in human flesh. But when He comes the second time, He will come in the glory of God and of the holy angels! Jesus declared it; the angels confirmed it; and the apostles explained it over and over again—Jesus is coming again. And that’s really the greatest promise of Christianity. While Jesus came once to die, He’ll come again to reign forever. We should always remember this truth: That the same Jesus born in Bethlehem will one day rule the world with truth and grace. Christ’s First Coming prepared the way for His Second Coming! Are we ready? Will you finish the work that God has given you to do in His church? And will we, together, finish the work that He has given us to do?  http://www.freegiftforlife.com http://www.freegiftforlife.com/me/DonO

Possibly my favorite verse in the bible. We have the power of the Holy Spirit within us, given to us directly by Jesus! We are to be His witnesses to all the ends of the earth.

Hi Henry. We learned in bible college an interesting fact: "If not Acts 1:8, then it's Acts 8:1: Now Saul was consenting to his death. At that time a great persecution arose against the church which was at Jerusalem; and they were all scattered throughout the regions of Judea and Samaria, except the apostles. Its amazing that although the were presecuted and "scattered", it actually HELPED in the spreading of the Gospel, not damper it! God Bless.

Hi Bruno. Verse 1:8 is that we will receive power. Verse 8:1 is that Saul - later known as Paul - was "in heart agreement" NASB with putting Stephen to death after Stephen's speech about Moses and Jesus. You're right about the scattering of the 5,000+ new christians helping to spread the gospel of Jesus. Keep on studying and keep on spreading the good news. Did you give away a gospel of John today? If not, try the Pocket Testament League's Evangelism Boot Camp short online course. It helped me a lot. Remember, Jesus gave us the power of the Holy Spirit - use it. And may God continue to bless you.

Hi Henry. Yes, you are correct; I always ask fo my daily dose of the Holy Spirit! ( : I just found it amazing how many times the devil tried to destroy the spread of he Gospel with the scattering because of presecution for example in Acts 8:1, but not even that could stop the good news of the gospel during that time in history. Boot camp had many great tips and I give out my gospels daily - almost... ( : God bless.
