Acts 20:24
However, I consider my life worth nothing to me; my only aim is to finish the race and complete the task the Lord Jesus has given me—the task of testifying to the good news of God's grace.

Key words " Testifying to the Good News of Gods Grace": The Gospel of Gods Grace, the Gospel of deliverance from ones sin. Romans 10:13 For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord will be saved. The Gospel message of Christ produces Salvation.

Amen, Peter. God's grace or unmerited divine assistance given to humans for their regeneration or sanctification. Regeneration is a key word too, as it gives us the power "assistance" to turn from our sins as we become sanctified. Blessings upon you and yours as we approach the day of remembrance and celebration of our Savior's birth. Hallelujah...!!!

Paul was a premier example of what believers in Christ should be. He considered not his own life, to see the truth of the gospel spread. Lord, help me to remember Paul's determination to see Your life saving truth spread to all I'm able. Amen

This is my life verse. There is nothing in the life more important that living for God and being about our Father's business. That doesn't mean being in "professional" ministry. I never call a minister or a missionary someone in full-time ministry, because everyone of us who is a Christian is called to be a full-time minister of the gospel. -- 1Co 10:31 Whether therefore ye eat, or drink, or whatsoever ye do, do all to the glory of God. -- It doesn't matter if you are a janitor, or a bus driver, a clerk or an executive, you are to be going about your daily activities in such a way that God gets the glory. We are to be salt and light to the world. We can only do that by living in a way that differs from those around us who are not saved. We have to stand out, and our lives should draw others to Christ. We are to be ready at a moments notice to tell others about salvation. -- 1Pe 3:15 But sanctify the Lord God in your hearts: and be ready always to give an answer to every man that asketh you a reason of the hope that is in you with meekness and fear: -- Nothing else on earth matters.

Very well expressed, Maggie. His grace is our empowerment. This has been so impressed on me as I am reading John Bevere's recent book, "GOOD or GOD?" I have his DVDs and CDs to but will not watch or listen til I finish the book. I love John's straight-to-the-heart approach. John & Lisa are two of my favoorite Bible teachers. We are 20th century Christians. Some of us are Christians only because it is convenient and pleasant and because it is not costing us anything. But here is the truth, whether we like it or not: the average evangelical Christian who claims to be born again and have eternal life is not doing as much to propagate his or her faith like some of the busy adherents of the cults handing out their papers on the street corners and visiting from house to house.
Am I, are we, willing to take the spit and the contempt and the abuses those cultists take as they knock on doors and try to persuade everyone to follow them in their mistaken beliefs? The cultists can teach us much about zeal and effort and sacrifice, but most of us do not want to get that serious about our faith--or our Savior. When Paul arrived at Miletus, he sent for the elders (overseers or bishops) of the church at Ephesus. The church had grown so much that he could not address them all, so instead, he spoke to the church leaders. He told them that the Spirit was leading him to Jerusalem but also warning him that it meant hardship. Yet Paul was not worried about his life, he was only concerned about finishing the tasks the Lord had given him. That task was telling people about God's grace. That should be the focus of our lives. Paul didn't pull punches when it came to speaking the truth about the word. It often caused him persecution, but he refused to compromise. He would not water down the Gospel for personal acceptance or safety or self- advancement. Repentance and dying daily are not a popular gospel, but it is the true Gospel. Anything short of that is not the whole will of God. Then Paul warned them about the heresies that were about to enter the church. He told them the source of those teachings would be men who wanted others to follow them personally. Pride has a way of making us think we see something no one else does. Pride causes us to elevate ourselves above others. Paul had taught faithfully for so long so that they would be grounded in the truth and able to recognize it from a lie. His letters can help us do the same. Paul's example here really speaks to my heart today! For many people, being a servant of Jesus Christ sounds romantic and idealistic. But serving Christ is a demanding proposition: “And he took again the twelve, and began to tell them what things should happen unto him, saying, "Behold, we go up to Jerusalem; and the Son of Man shall be delivered unto the chief priests, and unto the scribes; and they shall condemn him to death, and shall deliver him to the Gentiles, and they shall mock him, and shall scourge him, and shall spit upon him, and shall kill him; and the third day he shall rise again." [Mark 10:32-34]
Jesus said, ”If anyone would come after me, he must deny himself and take up his cross and follow me. For whoever wants to save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for me and for the gospel will save it." [Matt. 10:38, Mark 8:34-35, Luke 9:23-24] Do you pay a price—some extra time in the morning—to get into the Word of God? Do you pay the price of being ridiculed because you keep your Bible on your desk in the office or bow your head and thank God for His gracious goodness to you when He gives you a meal? Are you willing to be different? Will you finish your course?
When you’re running this race, you’re going to find out that you’re running right against the grain. I once heard, “If you aren’t running into the Devil, you are probably going in his direction!” Don’t get the idea that there’s the broad road and the narrow road, and the narrow road runs alongside the broad road, and over there a bunch of people are going this way, and over here you’re going in the same direction. No, there’s the broad way, and here we are, right in the middle of it, going the other way. Against the grain. What we believe starts at a different source follows a different course and ends at a different conclusion…and there is a price to pay.
Honestly, today none of us likes that idea of a “price to pay.” We say, “Well, I’m saved by grace, and so I’m just going to float on into heaven on flowery beds of ease. I got my ticket to heaven punched.” No. A disciple is one who follows his master, obeys his master, and there is a price to pay.
Remember when Jesus and His disciples had been in Galilee. The people had been friendly and had turned out in large numbers. The ministry had gone well, and the disciples may have begun to think that serving Jesus was a great idea. Friendly people, big crowds. And then one day Jesus dropped the bombshell: "We're leaving Galilee and going up to Jerusalem!"
I can almost hear the disciples saying, "The ministry is going great here in Galilee. Here they like us; up there they hate us and are liable to kill us.” Remember John 11:16, “Therefore Thomas, who is called Didymus, said to his fellow disciples, "Let us also go, so that we may die with Him.”"
The principle emerging from this story is that a servant-follower of Christ Jesus doesn’t get to choose his place of service, nor the type of service he will provide to the Lord. God chooses both of these things. But along with God's choice, He gives us the wisdom and strength we need. God wants all of you. He doesn’t want cool and casual Christianity, but radical obedience to Him until our dying breath. Grace is a free gift, but your response to it says everything about the reality of the gift itself. Give your all to Christ until He calls you home. When you do, you’ll have no regrets as you enter His presence forever!
The joy Our Lord had lay in doing what the Father sent Him to do, and He says - "As My Father hath sent Me, even so am I sending you." Have I received a ministry from the Lord? If so, I have to be loyal to it, to count my life precious only for the fulfilling of that ministry. Think of the boundless joy we will have when we hear Jesus say - "Well done, good and
faithful servant"; to know that you have done what He sent you to do. As His crucifixion drew near, remember Jesus said, “I have glorified You on the earth. I have finished the work which You have given Me to do.” [John 17:4] We have all to find our niche in life, and spiritually we find it when we receive our ministry/service from the Lord. In order to do this we must be with Jesus; we must know Him as more than a personal Saviour. "I will show him how great things he must suffer for My sake."
In John 21:15-19 Jesus asked Peter, ”Do you Me?”….. Then - "Feed My sheep." There is no choice of service, only absolute loyalty to Our Lord's commission; loyalty to what you discern when you are in closest contact with God. If you have received a ministry from the Lord Jesus, you will know that the need is never the call: the need is the opportunity. The call is loyalty to the ministry/service you received when you were in real touch with Him. This does not imply that there is a campaign of service marked out for you, but it does mean that you will have to ignore the demands for service along other lines. It is easier to serve God without a vision, easier to work for God without a call, because then we are not bothered by what God requires. And without a call, common sense is our only guide, veneered over with a layer of Christian sentiment. Oh yea, you will be more prosperous and successful, more leisure-hearted, if you never recognize the call of God. But if once we receive a commission from Jesus Christ, the memory of what God wants will be like a goad [Acts 24:14]. We will no longer be able to
work for Him solely on the common-sense basis. We need to ask ourselves, “What do I really count dear?”
Paul says he counted his life dear only in order that he might fulfill the ministry he had received. He refused to use his energy for any other thing. His exclusive consideration was fulfilling the ministry that he had received. Let us all pray that, like Paul, we “…might not 'count my life dear to myself.” I pour myself out today as Your servant, no matter the cost. I am “bought with a price” [1 Cor. 6:20].

Paul kept the faith and preached where ever he went knowing that harm could come to him, but his only aim was to finish the race and complete the task of the Lord Jesus had given to him-the task of testifying to the good news fo God's grace. His life was the Lords and was worth nothing without the Lord. We must keep the faith and complete what ever task is given to us by our Heavenly Father. He has givin us life and we must live life through his will and not that of our own.

Amen Linda. It also amazes me that Paul said "my life is worth nothing to me". I think it shows that he had suffered enough already, enabling him to overcome any anxiety that precedes pain. His own life was no longer dear to him, in fact, if now was his time to depart, he could rest assured that his course had been finished with joy. ( :
