I think he did evil things, because he did't want to dedicating himself to be serious about God. He did not want to seek God, only on doing evil things.

Jeremiah described the human heart as "desperately wicked". David prayed, "Create in me a clean heart." Jesus Christ came to give us a new heart but we need to be living in close fellowship with the Lord or our hearts may begin to drift away. Lord give me a heart that is sold out to You! Keep me free of any idol of the heart. May I always be seeking You and not chasing after the vanities of this world.
