1 Samuel 19:4
Jonathan spoke well of David to Saul his father and said to him, "Let not the king do wrong to his servant David; he has not wronged you, and what he has done has benefited you greatly.

1 Samuel 19:4 - You have to love Jonathan! i would love to have a friend like him. In the beatitudes Jesus says, "blessed are the peacemakers, for they will be called children of God" (Matthew 5:9) i know of people that avoid confrontation at all cost thinking that makes them a peacemaker. Not true, a peacemaker has to confront and take risk in order to make peace. Jonathan was that kind of guy. Jonathan was not only a great friend to David but also a great child of God. We are to honor our parents and Jonathan showed honor and respect to his father, Saul, even though he knew Saul was wrong many times.

Nancy: Yes and Jonathan was also practicing 1st Corinthians 13: love believes all things. he believed the best about his father until proven otherwise. Then we're told in that same chapter that love hopes things. as long as there's life there's hope. As long as his father was alive there was hope that would repent. That's kind of our call today to remember that as long as someone is still alive there's hope that they can get saved.

1 Samuel 19:23 - i had a hard time with this also. i figured the first time that Saul prophesied was to show the people that God had truly picked Saul as King. But this time, makes that time seem wrong (to me). i researched it and found NOTHING, NOT ONE THING. The only thing i can think of is the theme (to me) is man looking on the outward appearance and God looking at the heart. With that in mind in Matthew 7 Jesus says, "not everyone who says to me, Lord, Lord will enter the kingdom of heaven, but only the one who does the will of my Father who is in heaven. Many will say to me on that day, Lord, Lord, did we not PROPHESY in your name and in your name drive out demons and in your name perform many miracles? then i (Jesus) will tell them plainly, I never knew you. Away from me, you evildoers." ...therefore (to me) God is saying the same thing... don't look at a man's height or if he can do miracles, you can only judge by the heart and only God knows the heart.

This makes me think of Jesus and Peter, how Peter or any of the other desciples could have easily went to Pilate or Herod and plead for his life ,instead they ran and hid and Peter even denied knowing Jesus. We should all want to be and have a friend like Jonathan.

For sure Jeff. This whole story is pretty strange form my perspective but I believe it shows God can do whatever hHe desires to happen and will bring blessed change to our world today. God bless.
