1 Samuel 13:12
I thought, 'Now the Philistines will come down against me at Gilgal, and I have not sought the Lord 's favor.' So I felt compelled to offer the burnt offering."

How often have I said those very words....I thought.... I felt compelled...? Dear Lord, please help me be patient and wai5 on your timing. Help me to exercise restraint. Help me discern between my own compulsion and Your will. I repent for ever being like Saul. In Jesus' name.

I thought is what Saul said. How many times have I (we) said I think when God has told us differently. Lord, help me (us) to not go on our own but to listen to you and to follow you.

This was Saul's first major mistake. He disobeyed the Lord's command and offered up the burnt offering which only a priest can do. It was a test of faith during hard pressed time and Saul did what his heart compelled him to do rather than what God commanded him. Sometimes what we wanted is not what God wanted even though what we wanted seemed good to us. Saul only wanted to seek God but his way was not right. Even good intention can turn out bad if you do not consider God's commands or His will. To obey is better than sacrifice.

I often don't wait for the prompting of the Holy Spirit. Most time I don't even take into account what the Lord would have me do. I just jump right in. It's been revealed to me lately that I need to pray so much more and look for His guidance all the time.
