When the prophet who had brought him back from his journey heard of it, he said, "It is the man of God who defied the word of the Lord. The Lord has given him over to the lion, which has mauled him and killed him, as the word of the Lord had warned him."

This passage shows that if a word, supposedly from the Lord is given, it should be verified. This second person, claiming to be a prophet too, gave a false word to the first, perhaps to test him to see if he would follow the Lord's direction. It is apparent to me that upon receiving a word from the Lord, it should be confirmed at least one more time by another to verify that it was from the Lord. This first prophet died because he accepted what was told him without verification.
