1 Chronicles 28:9
"And you, my son Solomon, acknowledge the God of your father, and serve him with wholehearted devotion and with a willing mind, for the Lord searches every heart and understands every desire and every thought. If you seek him, he will be found by you; but if you forsake him, he will reject you forever.

In the king James version the word acknowledge is written as Know. It was important to David that he pass on to Solomon that his success was from his personal relationship with God. That the first thing he must do is KNOW God. Then David says to not only know God but serve him with your whole heart and mind. Serving with both heart and mind is very important because with the heart we can be led off course and see only sympathy and compassion and seeking with only mind we may see only the mechanics get side tracked in the details. With our heart and mind together we see love compassion and have the will and strength of the mind to steer the heart in the the right directions and get things done. First KNOW( study the bible talk with God daily) then SERVE, take the knowledge you have and the will of God for you that you found through your relationship and SERVE. Knowledge with out action accomplishes nothing. In verse 20 David also said to Solomon his son, “Be strong and courageous, and do the work.

1 Chronicles 28:9 – Most bible versions use the words “know thou God of thy father” instead of “Acknowledge the God of your father”. It is important to acknowledge that God is God but i like the words “know God”. David KNEW God and he wanted his son to KNOW God the same way he KNEW God. David not only found fulfillment in his God but also excitement. David lived for God. It is important that we KNOW God in order to serve Him. The more we KNOW Him, the more we will love Him and WANT to serve Him. Serving anyone that you don’t know or love will be a burdensome and you will soon burnout. Serving the Lord should be a labor of Love. Only if we KNOW God will we be able to serve wholeheartedly and with a willing mind. First KNOW him, then serve HIM. And as this scriptures says, we must seek God in order to KNOW and love Him…“Seek ye FIRST the kingdom of God.” (Matthew 6:33)… “And this is life eternal, that they might KNOW you the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom you have sent.” (John 17:3) … “For God, who said, ‘Let there be light in the darkness,’ has made this light shine in our hearts so we could KNOW the glory of God that is seen in the face of Jesus Christ.” (2 Corinthians 4:6)

Very true! David knew the Lord well, and he sought to do what pleases the Lord. The apostle Paul also talked about knowing Christ in Philippians 3:10

Great Point! I also like the work Know with out knowing its hard to acknowledge. We must have a personal relationship with God. We must seek so we can find the plans that he has for us so that we can serve and carry out his plan for our lives.

I think that what David told his son, Solomon, also applies to us today and every day. We are to serve God with wholehearted devotion and a willing mind, because the Lord is able to know what is in our heart, and what every thought that that we have. - If we seek Him, We will find Him. I feel that this is a scary thought, because sometimes I am not sure if I serve Him with wholehearted devotion. I am disabled and there are days when I feel drained of energy. and I feel very tired. - "Lord I submit my life to you. show me the way that I should go. And keep me in your thoughts."

Sue, You are always in God's thoughts. He knows how much energy you have. His yoke is not burdensome. He came to give us rest. God doesn't want your service as much as He wants your heart. All God ask of us is to love Him. You are reading His word, therefore you are seeking Him and if you are seeking Him, i know you love Him.

David first was willing to obey God in giving up his own desire to build the temple. He then said that his son, Solomon would be the one who would build the temple as God had instructed. Noe, David instructs Solomon that he must follow the Lord as He had done himself, so that all would be accomplished and the Lord would be with him so long as he followed God's commands. We sure could use some righteous leaders in the world today like David, who pay attention to what God says, instead of deciding for themselves what they will do. Reveal to our leaders, Lord, how important it is to follow Your ways instead of their own selfish desires. Amen

We cannot fool God, He knows us better than we do ourselves. This promise is wonderful but has a stern warning accompanying it that is quite fearful. When we look at the life of Solomon we see that he went widely astray but ultimately returned to the Lord. His summation of life is that all things are futilty if God is not the center. There are many distractions that may appear good in and of themselves but we must be careful not to be drawn away by our own lusts. GOD has given all things richly to enjoy and we must keep that in mind while we enjoy them.
