Obed-Edom's son Shemaiah also had sons, who were leaders in their father's family because they were very capable men.

Those of us that are parents are called to raise up our children in the nurture and admonition of the Lord. If we are successful in doing that then we can end our days with a sense of accomplishment. I would like to have my children say that I taught them to fear God an keep his commandments thereby fulfilling the full duty of man.

More or less reading between the lines of this verse I see that Obed-Edom and Shemaiah must have had a good upbringing, and were the type of father who were able instill in their sons. How to be a man! The verse says that these sons were leaders, and that they were very capable men. I believe that they had the kind of father who helped develop that leadership quality in them. I also believe that they were God fearing men. And God also gave them the gift of being a leader

Yes, Sue, those kind of men are rare and extremely valuable both today and back then.
