All of these mighty men were from the tribe of Benjamin. Even members of Saul's own tribe were deserting him and his family to help David become king over Israel. It was clear to them that God's hand was on David and He had chosen him as the next king. They put God's will over their family ties. Jesus warned us that taking a stand to follow Him may mean that families will be divided. Following God and His will is the best decision one can make and the rewards out weigh any trials that may come about because of that decision.

Sauls relatives knew Saul was not on the side of God. They were supportive of David because they knew that he was chosen from God to lead Israel. Just because the people closest to us think and feel something even if it's a father or mothe, sister or brother if we know it's not in Gods will for us we must stand firm in the will of God for our lives. It's funny sometimes the firmer we stand the harder the ones closest to us oppose us. Still we must live by example and not give in to even the smallest diversion.

These men had been with Saul until they determined he was not fair in his dealings. They were some of the choice fighters who could use both hands in battle. They determined that David was right in the problem with Saul and they came to serve David. Saul was a Benjamite but they could not follw him because of his cruelty toward David.
