1 Chronicles 11:18
So the Three broke through the Philistine lines, drew water from the well near the gate of Bethlehem and carried it back to David. But he refused to drink it; instead, he poured it out to the Lord.

1 Chronicles 11:18 - The first time I read this many years ago I thought, “what a waste”. I sounded just like Judas when Mary poured perfume on Jesus’ feet. If I were one of the 3, I would have been livid at what David did. But now I know that Jesus said (Mark 9:41) if you give a cup of water in my name because they belong to the Messiah you will not use your reward. And (Matthew 25:40) whatever we do for the less of the brethren, we have done unto me (Jesus). Now I see if from a completely different perspective. If I invest my time and effort into encouraging and training others to share their faith and they just receive my attention for themselves, THAT is a waste. But if they take what I offer them and study and get out there and share their faith, they are giving to Jesus what I gave to them and that is what it is all about.

Nancy, that's the same thing I did years ago when I read that story. But now as I've grown and understand more I am also reminded of all thru the law, there was mention of a drink offering, and when Paul was writing to the Philippians 2:17 Even if I am to be poured out as a drink offering upon the sacrificial offering of your faith, I am glad and rejoice with you all. I think by doing this, David was giving a drink offering and actually gained more loyalty from his men.

I've been trying to post on chap 11 all evening and it's not posting. It says it's saving, but not showing up. I even restarted my phone, no luck and then pulled the battery and sim card to do a total reboot and it still won't post. Good thing I saved it in my evernote and daily diary. I'll try and post it later. But the weird thing is that I can post comments like this. Go figger.

you know, verse 19 explains why he did that. David just says in passing, Oh I'd love to have a drink of Bethlehem water! and his men risked their lives (foolishly) to go get it. that made that water very precious, too precious for him to drink.

This teaches me that the three men was doing this for David,But David did not drink the water instead he poured it out to the Lord. We should all pour out to the Lord for he can see us through anything,if we will seek a relationship with Him.
