I believe this verse deals with a religious Babylon very rich, who opposes God. And according to John, she is wearing purple and scarlet, the colors that were very expensive clothing worn by Roman officials and royalty, a sign of upper- class affluence. A religious Babylon supported by the wealth and status of the world. Not poor, not shunned, and not disgraced , but celebrated and loved by the world, who shares an alliance with the powerful world leader.

Revelation 17:4-6 And the woman was arrayed in purple and scarlet. And she was gilded with gold and precious stones and pearls, having a golden cup in her hand full of abominations and filthiness of her fornication. 5  And on her forehead [was] a name written, MYSTERY, BABYLON THE GREAT, THE MOTHER OF HARLOTS AND OF THE ABOMINATIONS OF THE EARTH. 6  And I saw the woman drunk with the blood of the saints and with the blood of the martyrs of Jesus. And when I saw her, I marveled with a great marveling. This "Mystery Babylon" is not so much a geographical location, but a religious system with all the illusion of spirituality and just enough bible to sound good, picking and choosing the Scriptures that endorse the lifestyle making sure to leave out the ones they don't like. This religious system is referred to as the woman riding the beast, the great whore that had forsaken the true gospel and become a dominant role in the political system. She's the source of all the "New Age" philosophies with its ecumenical movement that all roads lead to heaven as long as you're sincere in your belief, whatever it may be. This belief has permeated the church and watered down the truth of the gospel of Jesus who said, "I Am the way the truth and the life, no one comes to the Father except thru me. The fact that She's riding the beast and the last verse of this chapter says that the woman whom you saw is the great city which has a kingdom over the kings of the earth indicates that she is supported by it and has a dominant role in its political power. She's drunk with the blood of the saints? How can that be? Well, history reveals to us that some of the most vicious persecution was by the Roman Catholic Church during the reformation, when the common folk were prohibited from reading the Bible and were to receive their revelation from the priest rather than reading it for themselves. They were to go to the priest for confession rather than Jesus Christ. The bible was written in Latin, and the sermon was all in Latin which the average church goer couldn't understand. Jesus told us to pray to the Father, in His name, not to Mary or one of the saints. Martin Luther nailed his thesis to the door basically stating that eternal life is thru faith alone in Christ alone. Guttenberg invented the printing press and the first book he printed was the bible in the common language of the day, because he believed it was important for us to read our bible. Tom Horn wrote a book called,  "Blood on the Altar", describing that the largest amount of persecution to Christians will be from other church goers. 2 Thessalonians 2 tells us to be sure no one deceives us and that Jesus isn't coming back til there's a falling away because of Satan performing lying signs and wonders with all deceit of unrighteousness. Because they will refuse to receive the love of the truth, God Himself is going to send a strong delusion. You can bet if God Himself sends it, it's gonna be a whopper so big that if possible even the elect will be deceived. The beast with the 10 horns that this woman is riding is the political system of the day and are also prophesied the book of  Daniel. A system with the world divided into 10 regions aka kingdoms. The agenda 2030, formerly known as agenda 21 has the plan to divide the world into 10 regions, spheres of influence -- National Reorganization. They are: 1. North America: USA, Canada and Mexico 2. Western Europe 3. Japan 4. Australia, South Africa 5. Eastern Europe, including Russia 6. Latin America 7. North Africa and the Middle East 8. Tropical Africa 9. South and Southeast Asia 10. China These 10 regions It will be a marriage of a one world government and one world religion. The deception is ramping up. We need to be in the Word regularly and about our Fathers business of seeking and saving the lost. He wishes that NONE should perish but ALL should come to eternal life, but the choice is ours.
