Listen, my dear brothers and sisters: Has not God chosen those who are poor in the eyes of the world to be rich in faith and to inherit the kingdom he promised those who love him?

Sometimes those who think they are rich needs to see that salvation can be gained and that the poor is richer than they are.

I like this verse as it reminds me when ever I read it. We are to serve not be served. We need to follow in Jesus's foot steps. Sometimes I need the reminder.

It is alright to be poor and be content with what God has given us. Sometimes I desire more but all my needs have been met. When I find myself wanting more I should stop those thoughts and thank god for what I have, because I have all I need and he has insured that.

This is just a thought. I don't mean it to be judgmental, especially when I am no where near the man I should be. I sometimes think these new plants that start churches on the fringe of cities instead of deeper into the cities are missing the point. Though God wants all to be save, He chose the poor to be rich in faith. All need God but I think revival and change would come to a city if we went to the poor. Many are going to the poor, I need to consider what this means for me. My thinking isn't completely developed in this area - just wanted to through it out there. What do you think?

I get your point, Peter, and I believe I understand your thoughts. I believe it takes a special calling to minister to that group of people because most are there for what they can get. I say that because there is a church not far from us which started, basically a food bank or mission in a city near us. I know the pastor there and they feed people who come, a full meal after Sunday service and one other day of the week, at which they have Christian entertainment and special speakers. It's definitely an outreach to the poor and feeds them, not only food for their bellies but also spiritual food. They weave the gospel into all facets of their ministry but many if not most are there for what they can get, namely food. That mission is near the downtown area of the city and it has always been on the pastors heart to minister to the poor. As I said, they weave the gospel into the food provision and I believe it takes a special calling for that type of ministry and thank God for those who God provides in that service. Blessings, Peter.
