Joshua 5:14
"Neither," he replied, "but as commander of the army of the Lord I have now come." Then Joshua fell facedown to the ground in reverence, and asked him, "What message does my Lord have for his servant?"
Terry L. from Orlando, FL said:
It is interesting the 'he' is neither for us or for our enemies. It seems that I have been trained that God is for me. Perhaps it should be I that is for God.
Also, it is interesting the 'he' allowed Joshua to worship him. This seems to indicate that 'he' is the preincarnate Son of God.

This is no normal angel, for He accepts Joshua's worship. He also tells Joshua that the ground he was standing on was holy ground, implying that he was speaking to God. Who is the Commander of the Army of the Lord? It is none other than the Son of God. The Son of God came to remind Joshua before the battle who was really in charge. There's a lesson here for all of us. What ever battles we might be facing we can safely turn those battles over to the Commander of the Lord's Army. He will give us the victory!

Lloyd S. from Trenton, ON said:
Joshua was always humble toward the commands and messages of the Lord, and had faith in what the Lord had to say. Remember, He believed when told that they would receive the land flowing with milk and honey, and had faith to believe they could take the land the Lord had promised, when most said the people were giants. Joshua had faith that they could conquer the land. Lord, help me (us) to trust in Your promises, without fear, because You are with me (us). Amen

God instructed, Joshua obeyed and had the family follow through as well....God sends His messenger, His help. Joshua was so in tune with God he immediately recognized and accepted that the messenger was there for him. Joshua was always ready for a miricle. Are we?

This shows that the Lord is always in command of true believers and we need to honor Him in our daily lives. Joshua, as you notice, immediately took off his sandals and bowed before the Lord's commander, honoring the Lord.
