John 19:11
Jesus answered, "You would have no power over me if it were not given to you from above. Therefore the one who handed me over to you is guilty of a greater sin."

Jesus answered, "You would have no authority over Me, unless it had been given you from above; for this reason he who delivered Me to you has the greater sin." John 19:11 - Nothing can happen to us unless God allows it. satan was unable to touch Job unless God allowed it. No one is in authority over us unless God allows it. God refers to King Nebuchadnezzar as His servant and we know that Nebuchadnezzar was evil. Paul wrote in the book of Romans, "Let everyone be subject to the governing authorities, for there is no authority except that which God has established. The authorities that exist have been established by God." (Romans 13:1) We are to show respect to those in authority over us even if they are evil. God will be their judge. It is wrong for us to call our political leaders, our bosses, our teachers, and police officers names. We may not respect or agree with what they do or say but we are still to show respect. Here in John 19:11 Jesus is saying that what Pilate was doing was a great sin. Pilate knew Jesus was innocent and yet Pilate ordered Jesus to be whipped and later to be crucified. I also find it interesting that Jesus speaks of some sins being greater than other sins. When we are sharing the good news with unbelievers, we must be careful when we talk about sin. Sometimes we leave them thinking that a little white lie is equal to murder and this can confuse them. We must make it clear to them that it is not sin that keeps us from heaven but what we do with Jesus that determines are final destination. Father in Heaven, help me not to be a people pleaser like Pilate was but rather be a God pleaser like Jesus is.

Wow, I had always assumed Judas as being the one who handed Jesus of to Pilate...iniatially is the way I thought of it. However I now understand that this person was Caiaphas who had "the greater sin" because as a religious leader he had a much greater responsibity to recognize the Messiah. I am so enjoying all the things that I am learning through this Bible Study along with my study Bible. Thank you Jesus for my better and more accurate understanding being revealed to me through your word. Praise God!!

Jesus laid down his deity for us to free us of our sins. Pilate nor the Jews had power over him. Pilate coud have freed him or punished him if the power was given to him by God. Jesus stated "You have no over me if it were not given from above. This lets me know that Jesus laid down his deity for me so that I would be free of sin and believe in him for everlasting life.

I feel that not many people understood why Jesus had to die. Afterwards the reason of his death and resurrection became known and accepted as payment for our sins. When it was happening it made no sense but one day it will. One day many things that we question will be come clear. God says my ways are higher then your ways. Jesus please give me the faith to trust your ways in all things. Jesus thank you for eternity with you.
