“Remain in Him!”
2 Corinthians 1:21b-22
He anointed us, set his seal of ownership on us, and put his Spirit in our hearts as a deposit, guaranteeing what is to come.
Thoughts for Today:
There seems to be a lot of confusing talk these days about "anointing". The following are some things the Bible says about this subject:
Zechariah 4:6 tells us: "This is the word of the Lord to Zerubbabel: ?Not by might nor by power, but by my Spirit,? says the Lord Almighty."
There is no record of Jesus performing miracles until after He was anointed with the Holy Spirit. John 1:32-33: "Then John gave this testimony: 'I saw the Spirit come down from heaven as a dove and remain on him. I would not have known him, except that the one who sent me to baptize with water told me, "The man on whom you see the Spirit come down and remain is he who will baptize with the Holy Spirit."'"
In Acts 1:4-5, the disciples were told by Jesus to wait for the anointing: "On one occasion, while he was eating with them, he gave them this command: 'Do not leave Jerusalem, but wait for the gift my Father promised, which you have heard me speak about. For John baptized with water, but in a few days you will be baptized with the Holy Spirit.'"
We also know it is by the anointing that the bondage of Satan is broken for believers. Isaiah 10:27 (KJV): "And it shall come to pass in that day, that his burden shall be taken away from off thy shoulder, and his yoke from off thy neck, and the yoke shall be destroyed because of the anointing."
Unfortunately, some people have misconceptions about how anointing works. The Lord's anointing does not come and go. Nor must we seek it every time the Lord's power is needed. In our passage today, Paul clears up any misunderstanding: We already have it!
The anointing is the presence and power of the Lord. Therefore, all believers who have received the Holy Spirit have this anointing. (1 John 2:27: "As for you, the anointing you received from him remains in you, and you do not need anyone to teach you. But as his anointing teaches you about all things and as that anointing is real, not counterfeit?just as it has taught you, remain in him.")
Questions to Ponder:
Are you operating in the power of His Holy Spirit? Have you released His power in your life? What's holding it back? What does the Bible say about the presence of the Lord? "Anointing is real not counterfeit?just as it has taught you, remain in him." The key is to remain in Him!
