“Communion -- What is the Value?”

1 Corinthians 11:30

That is why many among you are weak and sick, and a number of you have fallen asleep.

Thoughts for Today:

Our generation seems to de-emphasize communion. This is in stark contrast to the Book of Acts (or church history in general), in which we see a very real commitment to and awareness of the importance of The Lord's Supper to the life of any congregation. Today, many believers go months or years without communion because it's not important to them. Some churches have even replaced it as a regular component of worship. It's inconvenient, messy, and disrupts the flow. So it's been thrown out with other so-called meaningless rituals and traditions.

Unfortunately, because of the failure to give it appropriate value, people are dying physically, emotionally, and spiritually. We get thinner and weaker and have a lot less weight spiritually, when we don't refresh and revitalize ourselves at the Lord's table. As a result, there are far too many Christians who remain in a state of spiritual weakness for one simple reason: they have not placed a high enough worth upon what happens to us spiritually in communion.

Questions to Ponder:

When we go through difficult times it is even more important to come to church and participate in communion. When was the last time you shared in The Lord's Supper? Do you understand the true potency and vibrancy that is inherent in communion?
