“Evidence of the Claim”

1 Corinthians 9:1b-2

Are you not the result of my work in the Lord? Even though I may not be an apostle to others, surely I am to you! For you are the seal of my apostleship in the Lord.

Thoughts for Today:

My grandson Christian is in Kindergarten. You can imagine my surprise when he told me last night that he could now read. (A skill apparently learned in the few days since I saw him last.) I smiled and said, "Really? Show me how you can read." Christian pulled a book from his backpack and then jumped up on my lap. He pointed to a word, sounded out the first letter, and made up a word that seemed to go along with the picture. I told him how proud I was of him for trying, but told him it wasn't quite right. We then sounded out each letter of the word before we guessed at its meaning.

Could my grandson Christian read? Of course not. How do I know? Because there was no evidence. Paul's point in our passage today is very similar -- yet the polar opposite. How so? Because the change in the Corinthians' lives was confirmation of the way God was using Paul. They could not deny a claim that was further reinforced by the fact he was the spiritual father of the church (1 Corinthians 4:15: "Even if you had ten thousand guardians in Christ, you do not have many fathers, for in Christ Jesus I became your father through the gospel.") They themselves were the "result" of his work, and therefore the "seal" (or proof) of his "apostleship in the Lord."

Questions to Ponder:

What lives have been changed as a result of how God has used you? Has your faith had an impact on others? What proof can you show? Will you dedicate yourself to a life submitted to God and letting Him make you effective? Will you allow God to use you as a life changer?
