2 Chronicles 1:10
Give me wisdom and knowledge, that I may lead this people, for who is able to govern this great people of yours?"

Peter B.
Peter B. from Buchanan, MI said:
Solomon could have anything he wanted, but he chose wisdom and knowledge, a request that pleased God. And God knew from this, that Solomon had a pure heart, and that he loved God and his people then himself.

Amen and amen, Peter. Different verses we chose but our comments very similar, showing that Solomon wanted to be a righteous leader, and not just a demanding wealthy one. Blessings Peter, as we end another week in the low 70 today. Enjoy a terrific weekend as we see what the Lord will do on Sunday, being Pentecost. :-)

Solomon knew he was being given a huge task to govern the people of Israel and he knew he would need wisdom and knowledge. We need wisdom and knowledge today to walk in this world and become part of the worldly ways. Lord, I pray for the wisdom to make the decisions I face each day not according to my desires but based on you and your plan.

Solomon was pleasing to the Lord his God, by his request of wisdom to govern the people of Israel, rather than riches of the world. The Lord, therefore, gave him more than he had requested, as well as wisdom He gave him all the wealth he could imagine. Lord, help me to seek You for what You would desire me to have, especially wisdom, that I may be an effective witness to the world around me. Amen

A portion of God's gift of wisdom to Solomon has been recorded eternally in the Books of Proverbs, Song of Solomon, and Ecclesiastes. In Proverbs 1:20 Solomon portrays wisdom as calling followers in a busy street. The question is who is listening? Solomon also said we need to search for wisdom like those in pursuit of silver and Gold because it is more valuable than any treasure on this earth. Wisdom of course is found in the Word of God and is personified in Jesus Christ. So dig deep into the Word of God and draw closer to Jesus and you will be blessed abundantly!

Amen, Amen, Terry. God bless. Lord, help me to dig all the wisdom You have planted in Your word to us, the Bible, and give me the ability to see what You have planted in Your word for me to discover and apply to my life. Amen

Solomon is specifically told in 1 Kings 3:10 that the speech pleased the LORD. But we can also ask if this was the best Solomon could ask for. Was this the highest gift that he could have asked or received? For the longest time I personally asked and begged for this kind of wisdom, But after walking with God and seeing Solomons life, I began to realize that communion with God would've been better if he'd have asked for the heart for God that his father had. Solomon did his job well - as well or better than anyone. But as his falling away in the end showed (1 Kings 11:1-11) there was something lacking in his spiritual life. "There is no sign in his biography that he ever had the deep inward devotion of his father. His reign was glorious for Israel. At the same time, his end was tragic. We can fairly say that Solomon though he accomplished much, he could have done much more, but his heart was led away from God in the end (1 Kings 11:4-11). It seems, to me, perhaps that wisdom became his God, and Instead of being the wisest of men, he became more proud than any man. He seemed to have even lost the knowledge of his worship to the God of his father for the abominations he was led astray to by all his heathen wives...idolatry a proof of the grossest stupidity. Yes the gracious purpose of God was fulfilled in him! He received much; but he would have received much more, had he been faithful to the grace given if he would've put God 1st. In Deuteronomy 17:16, God spoke specifically to the future kings of Israel: But he shall not multiply horses or wives for himself. David broke the part about wives and Solomon went a step further and did the horses. Then as we read in the declining morality of Israel/Judah, each generation allows just a little more sin/Leven into the mixture and the whole loaf begins to get affected till they end up in Babylonian captivity. Lord, God please let Your judgment begin with Your church to seek You and Your kingdom 1st and not let the Leven of the world and it's idolatry seep in. And let this begin with little ole me that as each of us little ole me's light our candle in our own dark little corner of Your world, Your pure Leven would rub off on them rather than vice versa.

Matthew 6:33 is absolutely right: "But more than anything else, put God's work first and do what He wants. Then the other things will be yours as well." King Solomon knew that God has made him king after his father David, and he was now to rule God's people who are as many as the specks of dusts on the ground. Solomon needed God's wisdom to rule these people, and needed wisdom badly. (David said in 1 Chronicles 29:1 that Solomon was young and inexperienced.) Solomon asked for wisdom and knowledge to be the king of God's great nation. He could have asked God for riches, or to be famous, or to live a long life or the destruction of his enemies. But no, he asked God for wisdom to rule God's people. God was pleased with Solomon's request. Therefore, God blessed Solomon tremendously as He gave Solomon wisdom and intelligence, and made Solomon more richer and famous than any king who reigned before or after him. May we always put God's interests first. He promises to bless us tremendously.

Solomon was obviously concerned about effectively ruling Israel and asked God for the wisdom to do so. Because he did not ask for selfish things God gave him far more than he asked. It brings to mind some of our rulers and leaders today, if only they would seek God for wisdom in their leadership, what a different world we would have. God, I pray that You would open the spiritual eyes and ears of our leaders and governing representatives today to seek Your ways, rather than thinking they know or own all they govern, and that You, Lord, are the actual owner of everything that exists. Amen
