1 Chronicles 25:8
Young and old alike, teacher as well as student, cast lots for their duties.

The teacher and the scholar, young or old there wasn't any difference in age or abilities, the lots were cast to see who would serve first. This was a difficult chapter, what it boils down to there was No Favoritism.

As David was still alive, and still king, it appears that once again he did not show favoritism but all were assigned their duties by the casting of lots. They were not appointed through favoritism, so no one could have said, oh, this one or that one was David's favorite. I believe this shows the righteous leadership of king David. As I understand this chapter, all were equally talented, so it was a honorable way to position them. In the remainder of this chapter it is difficult to understand how each of those who won the draw, had 12 sons and relatives. It had to be a God plan in my mind.

Age did not make you any better or leave you out. All were treated equally and made beautiful music to the Lord. Father, help me to look at everyone equally and not think because they are young they don't know or because they are old that they wouldn't understand. We are all created equal in your sight and we all have talents given to us by you.

So true Patty. I see it our church regularly where young and old contribute to the service of the Lord. God bless.

amazed at how the lot system is used so much. ..it probably makes it easier to decide on so many positions and avoid problems. .. leaves results up to God. As we know God can always override if things don't. work out according. to His plan (thinking about when they used lot system to select the apostle to replace Judah).

Sure a lot of confusing stuff in this section of Scripture. As I understand it, Prophets are chosen only by God, and are not elected or selected by man. "The Apostolic Revelation" (2002) by John Kingsley Alley is a great source of information regarding a prophet.
